Past Perfect tense examples in Urdu and English

Structure of sentence

Positive sentence

         Subject + auxiliary verb + main verb (past participle) + object

         Subject + had + 3rd form of verb or past participle + object

Example:

 I had gone to Karachi.

میں کراچی جا چکا تھا۔                                                      

 We had come here.

ہم یہاں آچکے تھے۔                                                             

They had written a letter.

وہ خط لکھ چکے تھے۔                                                     

You had swum in the water.

آپ پانی میں تیر چکے تھے۔                                                 

She had won the match.

وہ میچ جیت چکی تھی۔                                                       

He had reached there.

وہ وہاں پہنچ چکا تھا۔                                                        

It had rained in Karachi.

کراچی میں بارش ہو چکی تھی۔                                             

 

Negative sentence

        Subject + auxiliary verb + NOT + main verb (past participle) + object

        Subject + had + not + 3rd form of verb or past participle + object

Example: 

  I had not gone to Karachi.

میں کراچی نہیں جا چکا تھا۔                                                                              

 We had not come here.

ہم یہاں نہیں آچکے تھے۔                                                             

They had not written a letter.

وہ خط نہیں لکھ چکے تھے۔                                                     

You had not swum in the water.

آپ پانی میں نہیں تیر چکے تھے۔                                                 

She had not won the match.

وہ میچ نہیں جیت چکی تھی۔                                                      

He had not reached there.

وہ وہاں نہیں پہنچ چکا تھا۔                                                         

It had not rained in Karachi.

کراچی میں بارش نہیں ہو چکی تھی۔                                             

  

Interrogative sentence

        Auxiliary verb + subject + main verb (past participle) + object

        Had + subject + 3rd form of verb or past participle + object

Example: 

  Had I gone to Karachi?

کیا میں کراچی جا چکا تھا؟                                                      

 Had we come here?

کیا ہم یہاں آچکے تھے؟                                                              

Had they written a letter?

کیا وہ خط لکھ چکے تھے؟                                                     

Had you swum in the water?

کیا آپ پانی میں تیر چکے تھے؟                                                 

Had she won the match?

کیا وہ میچ جیت چکی تھی؟                                                      

Had he reached there?

کیا وہ وہاں پہنچ چکا تھا؟                                                        

Had it rained in Karachi?

        Auxiliary verb + subject+NOT+ main verb (past participle) + object

        Had + subject+NOT+ 3rd form of verb or past participle + object

کیا میں کراچی نہیں جا چکا تھا؟                                                      

 Had we not come here?

کیا ہم یہاں نہیں آچکے تھے؟                                                             

Had they not written a letter?

کیا وہ خط نہیں لکھ چکے تھے؟                                                      

Had you not swum in the water?

کیا آپ پانی میں نہیں تیر چکے تھے؟
